Approximately 100 participants took part in Green Bridge Forum 2013: representatives of ministries, municipalities (akimats), corporate executives, business organizations of Kazakhstan and Latvia. The discussions, which were guided by the presentations of over 30 speakers, were at times lively and showed expressed commitment to the policies and principles of Green Economy. The keynote speeches in plenary session was given by Mr. B.A. Mukhamedzhanov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Latvia, Mr. Aleksandrs Antonovs, State Secretary of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development of the Republic of Latvia, Mr. T.A. Akhsambiev, Vice Minister of Environment and Water Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Ms. Bakhyt Yessekina, Director of the SREC “Green Academy” in her keynote addressed the status and prospects of “green economy” in Kazakhstan. She noted that the Latvian companies could assist in the development and transfer of “green” technologies; conduct researches on natural capital assessment, “green” taxation, etc. As it was noted by Ms. Alda Ozola, the Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development nowadays in Latvia has established an extensive regulatory and legal framework for “greening” of the economy, in particular, has developed long-term strategy for sustainable development of Latvia which provides an assessment of ecosystem services use, were adopted the laws “On assessing of the impact on the environment”, “On “green” taxation”, is being implemented the system of state “green” procurement.
Latvian experts and businessmen shared their experiences in the development of “green” economy. Ms. Evija Pudane, Head of «Cleantech Latvia» has told about the implementation ways of projects for the introduction of “green” technologies. The cоmpany has been operating in the field of recycling, agriculture and forestry, renewable energy sources, technology transfer, water management, researches and development, education and production. Ms. Baiba Gulbe, Acting Director of the Latvian Association of enterprises on water supply and sewerage and Mr. Andrey Belogorsky, Managing Director of Karme Filtrs, Ltd shared with experience on water treatment. Ms. Anda Kursisha, Chairman of the Board Cluster of the industrial energy efficiency in Latvia and Martins Zhvigurs, Board member of the Menerga Baltic described implemented projects in Latvia, Europe and America in energy-efficiency area.
