Green Bridge Forum 2015 Overview

Green Bridge Forum 2015 “Building the Bridge to Clean Technologies between European and Central Asia countries”, April 15-18, 2015 in Latvia

Green Bridge Forum 2015 was an international conference within the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and it was designed to serve as a vehicle for the exchange of ideas, experiences of leading representatives of the industry and promoting sustainable and high-quality environment and employment in the EU, Central Asia and beyond.

Overall 300 delegates from 21 country attended the Green Bridge Forum 2015, including government officials, clean technology businesses, experts and NGO’s. The Forum was one of the most prominent environment industry events within the Latvian Presidency devoted to strengthening cooperation between the EU and Central Asian countries – Kazkhstan, Kirgizstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan – on the issues of environmental governance and on facilitation of green growth activities across the region.

The main objective of the Green Bridge Forum was to strengthen environmental governance and enhance cooperation between the EU and the Central Asian countries in water and waste management, energy efficiency, renewable and alternative energies as well as in reliable, sustainable, low-carbon technologies to facilitate the green growth activities across the EU and Central Asia region. In doing so, the Forum evaluated the current progress, reviewed cooperation activities and considered further steps within the framework of the EU-Central Asia Platform for environment and water management. Participants of the Forum shared their knowledge on concrete solutions and proposals for technologies that can be used. The Forum facilitated the shift to a green economy which itself provides opportunities for increasing competitiveness and advancing the well-being of current and future generations.

The Forum speakers were some of the most experienced government representatives, entrepreneurs, investors and other industry experts, EU and international financial institutions implementing green business projects in the EU and Central Asia. The Forum has proven that the EU and Central Asia countries need to care about various global topics – green business being one of them. Changes in market conditions and policy frameworks can be accelerated through collaboration and partnerships, helping businesses to have their voice heard in policy discussions.
